What was the motivation behind creating the Ebitei black curry canned food? |
I am from Iwate Prefecture. Although I live in Tokyo and run a restaurant, the Great East Japan Earthquake inspired me to do something. I heard from my friends and acquaintances in my hometown that “food was a joy during their disaster-stricken lives,” and as a chef, I wondered if there was anything I could do. |
Did you encounter any challenges in developing the Ebitei black curry canned food? |
It took 12 years from conception to finally complete our black curry canned food! There were many challenges along the way, from sourcing ingredients to perfecting the flavor and finding the right factory. At times, I felt like giving up, but seeing the devastation caused by disasters like the Kumamoto earthquake gave me the strength to keep going. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep connection with Shibuya, where I opened my restaurant in 2005, and I wanted to contribute to the community in any way I could. This product is filled with all those thoughts and feelings. |
What are the features of the Ebitei Black Curry canned food? |
This exquisite European-style black curry is crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Bursting with hearty chunks of domestic beef and a medley of fresh vegetables including burdock root, lotus root, onion, and mushrooms, this curry is both satisfying and flavorful. We’ve selected premium short-horn beef and carefully balanced the spices to create a medium-spicy curry with a rich, velvety texture. |
Can you tell me about Tankaku beef? |
Iwate beef, a rare Japanese breed, constitutes less than 1% of the domestic beef market. Renowned for its leanness, it offers a healthier alternative, rich in umami, or savory flavor. The meat develops a profound depth of flavor with every chew. |
Is there a specific reason why you chose to use a can instead of a retort pouch? |
While cans require more effort to open and heat, they offer a longer shelf life of up to three years compared to retort pouches, which typically have a one-year shelf life. This makes them ideal for storage. Canned products allow you to enjoy the rich, deep flavors of freshly cooked beef, vegetables, and roux. |
What is the reason for making emergency food so high-quality? |
Food is essential for people affected by disasters. While government and other organizations have been providing food aid, many survivors still crave delicious meals. That’s why we created emergency food that’s both nutritious and tasty. You can even customize it with toppings to enjoy a variety of flavors. |
What kind of toppings would you recommend? |
1.Boil potatoes, broccoli, carrots, or a frozen vegetable mix, and drain. Combine with warm black curry roux. 2.Cook beef, pork, or chicken in a pan until done. Add black curry roux to the same pan to warm it up. 3.Cut firm tofu into bite-sized pieces and warm with black curry roux. 4.Place a fried egg on top of the warmed black curry roux. |
What is the quantity and expiration date of this can? |
This can contains enough food for two people. It has a shelf life of three years. Like most canned goods, please store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. You can purchase this product in sets of two or three from our online shop. |
